As you may recall, in an earlier post I spoke of my newfound love for espresso. After returning home I tried a number of espressi, and decided the local coffee shops just do espresso poorly. The solution, of course, was to buy an espresso machine, which I did. I haven’t reached the obsessive stage of grinding my own beans – instead preferring to use ESE Pods (currently have Illy and Izzo in the house).
Since I have the machine, I sought out cocktail recipes, of course! I found a few, but the best/easiest was just a touch bitter. After tasting it I realized it needed sugar. Italians use a LOT of sugar in their caffè, and this cocktail should express that. So here it is – and if you notice the picture it develops a lovely crema head, just like a good espresso should
.
Butterblogger’s Espresso Cocktail
- 1 oz Vodka
- 1 oz Kahlua
- 1 shot (~2 oz) fresh brewed espresso
- 1 teaspoon caster sugar
Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into chilled cocktail glass and enjoy.
My friends have all enjoyed this drink. They say the buzz of the caffeine is a nice balance to the alcohol. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
